the history of adaptive front-lighting system

with the development of the automobile headlight technology, adaptive front-lighting appeared.

 

since 1899th, automobile headlights use lantern as lighting equipment in the night. and then the light bulbs, halogen bulbs, projector, etc appeared, which all have the defects of low brightness. later on, the hid, laser lamps, led lamps appeared.

 

adaptive front-lighting has three generations:
the first generation adaptive front-lighting has up, down, left and right(or just up and down) function. the overall function is as follows:

the left picture shows the up and down regulating function, and the right picture shows the right and left regulation function. the up and down regulation function can adjust the exposure height of headlight according to the car’s pitch situation to prevent dazzling at any time. the left and right regulation function can rotate the headlight to optimize the driver's vision according to the rotation of the steering wheel angle. you can see clearly the feature of the up, down, left and right regulation function. afs is named for the first generation adaptive front-lighting by people.

 

the overall composition of afs is as follows: the left picture is afs only with up and down regulation function, and the right picture is afs with up, down, left and right function.

the second adaptive front-lighting system increased urban mode, high speed mode, bad weather mode on the base of the first generation.

the first picture represent the high speed mode. this mode can illuminate further distance than basic short-distance light, which can let the driver see further and assure more time to response.

 

the second picture represent the urban mode. this mode can illuminate wider scope, which can let the driver see two side of road to prevent the pedestrian rushing out all of a sudden.

 

the second picture represent the bad weather mode with the purpose of preventing the   light reflecting into the drivers’ eyes when the cars’ light exposure to the water on the road.

 

the second generation adaptive front-lighting system is called full function afs. compared to first generation , the second generation is added camera system to identify the current road conditions.

 

the third generation adaptive front-lighting is called adb, which can prevent dazzling when meet the driver’s demand at the most degree. so the car will open the high beam when there’s no vehicle on the opposite, or adjust the light barrier to block the high beam. and adb will adjust lighting mode according to the road conditions to realize urban mode, country mode, etc.

 

compared to the second generation, the third generation adaptive front-lighting system improve the headlamp’s function, such as adding light baffle or light_transferring pole, or upgrading the xenon lamp to led matrix lamp.
